The Highland Memorial Cemetery was established in 1925. The South Portland Lions Club, as a community service, assumed the administration and oversight of the cemetery in 1987. The Club believes that this property is sacredly devoted to the dignified interment of the dead, and that the strict observance of all that is proper in a place so dedicated is required.
The Highland Memorial Cemetery Association, a non-profit corporation, was then formed to administer the cemetery. As such, no officer or member of the association or of the Lions Club receives any salary or compensation for services rendered. All funds are derived from the sales of lots, the Lions Club, and other donations.
One should make plans now for themselves and loved ones for a future resting place.
South Portland residents should consider Highland Memorial as a unique opportunity to remain in South Portland, although this cemetery is open to anyone for interment.
We encourage you to visit the cemetery and enjoy its beauty and well kept grounds. The cemetery is open daily from sunrise to sunset and has a full time superintendent.
For all they have done for us, we hold our veterans in the highest esteme and repect at Highland Memorial. For those who have served in the Military Services, we honor them for the heroes they are. For their service and honor to our country, we pay our respects to our veterans. We celebrate their lives through their families as well. We hold dear to the intimate and very personal family gatherings of these military families.
